MR Diffusion

Purpose

1. MR diffusion is able to detect vasogenic edema, as T2 shine-through (Bo and DWI maps are positive, but ADC is negative), occasionally with more sensitivity than MR flair.

2. MR diffusion is able to distinguish cytogenic edema from vasogenic edema; both the DWI and ADC maps become positive.

Findings

MR Diffusion

There is subpial edema on the DWI to suggest leptomeningitis. [Yes/No]

There is cortical & subcortical edema to suggest cortical vein CVT. [Yes/No]

There intra or extra axial fluid collection with positive DWI consistent with fluid collection, or positive DWI & ADC consistent with organized empyema, abscess, or infected intraventricular sequestra. [Yes/No]

NO other significant imaging findings are present. [Yes/No]
