Findings & Impressions
Findings:
Examination the lung bases demonstrates dependent atelectasis
without focal consolidation, pleural effusion, or pneumothorax. The
visualized heart and mediastinum are normal.
Examination of the abdomen and pelvis demonstrates fat stranding around the proximal sigmoid colon consistent with diverticulitis. There are small foci of air outside of the colon, consistent with contained small perforation.
There is no fluid collection. There is no intraperitoneal free air. There is
diffuse diverticulosis. The course and caliber of the colon is otherwise
normal. The appendix is normal. There is right inguinal and pelvic
lymphadenopathy.
The liver, spleen, and adrenal glands are normal. The pancreas is markedly
atrophic but is otherwise normal. The kidneys are also mildly atrophic
bilaterally. There are small hypodensities in the right kidney that are too
small to characterize but likely represent simple renal cyst. The
gallbladder is distended with no radiopaque gallstones. There is no
gallbladder wall thickening or pericholecystic fluid. The stomach and
remainder of the small bowel is normal. The bladder is decompressed. The
prostate is normal.
There are degenerative changes but no acute abnormalities the visualized
osseous structures.
Impression:
Diffuse diverticulosis with localized diverticulitis in the proximal sigmoid colon. There is a small area of contained perforation.
There is no fluid collection or free intraperitoneal air.
